Collecting For A Cause
LITTLETON, Colo., -- Dec. 8, 2008 -- The holiday season is here. The cold weather is officially sticking around. The current economic situation is forcing more people to become thrifty spenders or find help with everyday expenses. With these issues on so many minds, Seamless Compassion, a subsidiary of Colorado company Efficient Forms, is announcing its own seasonal food drive. All the collections will go to the Arvada Community Food Bank in Jefferson County, Colo.; the same county where both company's headquarters are located.
Seamless Compassion, launching this month, is an online solution that will help expedite eligibility forms and enrollment paperwork for families applying to self-sufficiency core programs like Food Stamps or WIC. While working on this new project, many of the employees at Efficient Forms were able to see exactly how America's economic crisis is effecting individuals, families and government programs.
For some, just figuring out how to pay for their basic needs is a struggle. Current economic upheaval has caused more and more people, especially young families, to start looking into the requirements for receiving aid-- specifically from government food assistance programs.
In September of this year the U.S. antihunger program, Food stamps, reached a new devastating record. According to government data, more than 31.5 million Americans used the program -- that's approximately 10 percent of the country's population.
The demands on food banks nationwide are rapidly increasing and many are struggling to keep shelves stocked and donations flowing. Efficient Forms and Seamless Compassion want to do what they can to help alleviate some of the strains their local food bank is facing.
Co-founder and VP of Sales for Efficient Forms, Todd Fenske, said, "With the holidays approaching, winter weather finally settling in Colorado and the current state of the economy, we knew the food banks would need plenty of help. We've been more fortunate than most in the past year and we think it's important to help out where we can."
